Einseitige Klebebänder kommen in vielen Bereichen zum Einsatz, zum Beispiel beim Verpacken, Montieren, Abkleben, Reparieren, Kennzeichnen, Abdichten, Isolieren oder Schützen von Oberflächen. Sie werden sowohl im Haushalt als auch im Handwerk, in der Industrie und im Versand verwendet.
Zu den häufigsten Arten gehören Verpackungsklebebänder, Kreppbänder, Gewebebänder, Aluminiumbänder, PVC-Klebebänder, PE-Klebebänder, Warn- und Markierungsbänder, Isolierbänder, Schutzfolienbänder und Dichtbänder.
Einseitiges Klebeband klebt nur auf einer Seite und wird meist zum Abdecken, Fixieren, Reparieren, Verschließen oder Markieren genutzt. Doppelseitiges Klebeband klebt auf beiden Seiten und dient vor allem zum unsichtbaren Befestigen oder Verbinden zweier Oberflächen.
Wichtig sind der Einsatzbereich, die Oberfläche, die gewünschte Haftkraft, die Temperaturbeständigkeit, die Feuchtigkeits- oder UV-Beständigkeit, die Reißfestigkeit, die Klebebandbreite und die Frage, ob das Band später wieder rückstandsfrei entfernt werden soll.
Die Oberfläche sollte sauber, trocken, staubfrei und fettfrei sein. Öl, Wachs, Schmutz, lose Farbe oder Feuchtigkeit sollten entfernt werden. Auf rauen oder porösen Oberflächen kann ein stärker haftendes Klebeband erforderlich sein.
